101 goals in 1001 days

Ok, so I’ve seen on a few sites [Day Zero & Workingwith.me.uk] a list of 101 tasks/goals to complete in 1001 days. I thought this might be a cool way of getting myself motivated to do a few things that I’ve always wanted to do or that I should have probably done already. I think I might have even convinced my friends Heather and Melissa to do it with me. So anyway, I’m going to start Thursday, May 1st, 2008 so my “completion date” is going to be Thursday, January 27th, 2011. So to get myself ready for May 1st, I am going to start with coming up with 101 goals for my list. Which, is going to be my first goal by the way: Come up with 101 goals for this list. My 101st goal is going to be complete all goals on this list.

The Mission
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.
